Meet Our Team
Owner, Barre Instructor
A message from Megan:
"To the Barre East Team: Thank you for making this the best environment to grow – as an individual and a leader. Your dedication, teamwork, enthusiasm and pure desire to build a community that supports, strengthens and empowers is evident and contagious. You have helped our clients grow – both physically and mentally. Thank you for all you do!
To our Clients: Thank you! Every single one of you has been so welcoming and supportive. You have challenged me as a business owner to be better. I will continue to ask for you to push yourselves – but at the end of the day, I always find myself reflecting on whether I pushed myself enough for you. Thank you for making Barre East a community and an environment where we can all strive to be better together. You are amazing women and I am thankful to know you."
Jess has been with Barre East from its opening and has loved every minute! Her love of movement began early, and at age 3 her mom, a dance teacher, put her in ballet. Since then, she has danced professionally, began her ballet teaching career, became a certified group fitness instructor, became the owner and instructor of Fit4Mom Frederick for 5 years and became a certified barre instructor!
Jess realized her love of barre fitness when she took a class 4 years ago and so many aspects of it reminded her of being in a dance class. When she heard Barre East was opening, she jumped at the chance to get involved. Jess feels Barre fitness is an arena to release any stress while being able to push yourself to the next level!
Jess lives in New Market with her hubby and 3 beautiful kids and is thankful everyday to be able to do what she loves while still having time with her family!
Despite my slight southern twang, I was born and raised right here in Frederick! I am 1 of 4 kids, I graduated from TJ High School and went on to graduate from Wake Forest University in NC. I moved back to Frederick in 2015. I have a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful kids. Madison is 20, CJ is 11, and Eli is 9. We have 3 Nigerian Dwarf goats, five chickens, too many bunnies, a cat, and a dog. Clearly I'm a country girl at heart!
My dance roots run deep and strong which is one reason Barre is close to my heart. I was a student at Frederick School of Classical Ballet for 15 years and was also a member of the Maryland Regional Ballet. It was through Frederick School of Classical Ballet that my connection to Meg and the Ellis family began, and the rest is history!
A word to my Barre East Barre Babes: I couldn't be the instructor that I am without all of you! Each time I teach a class I'm inspired by each of you to push a little harder and reach a little higher. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful ladies I've met and continue to meet through this studio. Every person who comes through that door feels like a new friend that quickly becomes family. I love each and every one of you and am thankful that Barre East is a part of my life!
Meghan has been Barre East's resident yoga instructor since November 2016. She discovered yoga in 2008 as a way to cross train and prevent injury from running and marathon training. After years of practicing yoga and noticing the vast physical and mental health benefits from a routine practice, she decided to train and study to receive a 200 hour yoga teacher certification in 2013. Since then, she has taken 2 trips to India to further her study of yoga. She encourages her students to go!
She loves the Barre East community and is always inspired by their dedication and commitment to their health and wellness. She is thankful for their sense of humor- they make barre and yoga classes so fun and are always willing to try something new and challenge themselves! Their unwavering welcoming and positive attitude makes everyone feel included.
Full time, Meghan works at the FDA as a Health Communications Specialist and lives in downtown Frederick. When she's not teaching yoga, she enjoys taking barre classes, running, CrossFit, enjoying a craft beer or glass of wine outside, cooking and doing home improvement projects!
Anne Marie Merritt
Anne Marie, originally from California but a Maryland girl at heart, has instructed at Barre East since 2016. She embraced the big hearted culture fostered in the studio from day one!
Experiencing the warmth and acceptance first hand as a client before starting her teaching career, Anne Marie believes Barre East is more than a great workout, it's a family! No stranger to downtown Frederick as a longtime employee of Whitesell Pharmacy as Community Outreach, Anne Marie finds true enjoyment in working with community members of all backgrounds and engaging in activities to benefit the local area.
She strives to bring a fun atmosphere to her classes while challenging the clients to work hard and never give up. When she isn't at the studio taking or teaching class, Anne Marie can be found spending time with family, friends, and her four legged buddies, volunteering with local charitable organizations (especially Little D on the Monocacy), cooking, and running distance races, including 5 half marathons.
"I love the empowerment our clients give to one another as women, while honoring the beauty individuality brings... If I can make a difference in one person's life by being positive, encouraging, and showing a little kindness, I know I've done my job."
Meet Colleen! When Colleen is not taking Barre classes, she enjoys baking (chocolate chip cookies are her favorite), shopping, and drinking wine!
Colleen lives in Middletown with her husband and two kids, ages 5 and 2. She grew up in the area taking and teaching dance classes at Dee Buchanan Studio of Dance and was a member of the Madison Dance program at James Madison University. After college Colleen went on to teach elementary special education in Fairfax County, VA. During that time Colleen was constantly on the hunt for a way to incorporate more dance in her life! It wasn’t until she was pregnant with her second baby two years ago that she fell in love with Barre. The low impact workouts were exactly what she had been looking for!
Colleen loves taking classes at Barre East because they are all different, challenging, and so much fun -- and she's also seen amazing results!
Emily grew up just down the road in Montgomery County. She has a bachelors degree from UMASS and a masters degree in Organizational Psychology from UMBC (She can organize a business but she can’t organize your closet!)
Emily has been married to her husband Mike for just over a year, and they have a giant furry cat named Crybaby. Emily and Mike moved to New Market in the Spring. Not long after, Emily found her Barre East family. Prior to moving from Bethesda, she was a certified fitness instructor. Emily was also an athlete growing up, before a knee injury, so she understands the importance of low impact fitness that’s gentle on the joints.
When Emily is not at the studio, she's always looking to try new things! Some of her recent adventures include aerial arts (static trapeze), belly dancing, improv, and cooking classes. Next up, flying lessons and hooping!
Emily has expressed how thankful she is to have found this welcoming, like-minded group of women. Every day is a new challenge for her and she enjoys passing on that challenge to her classes!

Lauren first came to Barre East in March of 2018 shortly after learning she was expecting her second child. She immediately felt welcome and loved the sense of community the studio offers. She also loved that each instructor has a unique style and that the classes are always fun, challenging, and different. Already a yoga instructor, Lauren found a barre training in Virginia that infused elements of both yoga and traditional barre fitness and decided to become a certified instructor. She enjoys incorporating elements of yoga into her classes to create a fun and flowy feel.
Lauren lives in New Market with her husband, 4 year old son Brice (who also enjoys spending time at the studio) and of course the little one on the way. When she's not teaching, she loves reading, running, painting and spending time with her family. She is both humbled and excited for the opportunity to become a part of the Barre East family.
Kim became a client at Barre East soon after the opening in 2015. She was looking for a fitness program after her daughter was born. Kim has a dance
background so she felt “at home” at the barre. She immediately loved the low-impact workouts, the judgement-free environment and saw great results. Kim has continued with barre fitness at Barre East because she says, when she walks out of every class, she feels stronger and more empowered than when she walked in. She is so excited to be an instructor and share these good vibes with the clients.
Kim teaches kindergarten at Brunswick Elementary School and absolutely loves her job. She is also the proud mama of two beautiful children. Kim likes to stay active and is always on the go with her kids. She believes that making time for yourself and your health should be a priority. Meet Kim at the barre!
Corryn grew up not far from Frederick in Leesburg, VA. After graduating from The University of Tennessee she moved back up to the area to work for Under Armour in Supply Chain. After a few years in Baltimore and another degree later, her now husband and her decided to move to Frederick to start the next chapter of their lives together.
Fitness has always been an important aspect of her life, from being involved in sports growing up to finding her love of group fitness classes later in life, finding new and fun ways to stay active and healthy is something that is very important to her. Her passion for barre began around three years ago when she took her first class in Baltimore. After moving to Frederick, Barre East was the first studio
she joined. She knew after her first class there that Barre East was something special, it was more than a barre studio, it was a community.
When Corryn is not at the studio you can find her behind her camera (she loves photography too!) or curled up on the couch with her pup and some wine in the winter or soaking up the sun outside in the summer (she is definitely more of
a warm weather person!).
Corryn is so excited to be a part of the Barre East community and to have the opportunity share her passion of barre and group fitness with the other Barre East members.
